The Future of Cloud Computing
One of the advantages of cloud computing is increased efficiency. It is one of the many reasons why more businesses are adapting to this new technology. Today, this trend is experiencing exponential growth which is forecast to continue further in the coming years.
To elaborate on this topic further, this article, has rounded up some of the best predictions about the future of cloud computing in 2019.
1. Global Data Center Traffic Will Increase Threefold
As cloud services are increasingly being integrated in businesses, the global data center traffic is expected to grow for the next three years. A 2015 forecast by the Cisco Global Cloud Index (GCI) has predicted that the annual traffic will reach 17.1 zettabytes (ZB) by the end of 2020. In 2019 alone, it is expected to hit the 14.1 ZB mark, a far cry from the 6.8 ZB figure from just three years ago.
This trend only means that more cloud service providers are bound to deliver larger-capacity storages to cater to the increasing need for available space. It will benefit both corporations and small businesses by giving them the ability to store larger data sets, and customize storage options at far lower prices.
2. Cloud Services Solutions Will Simplify More Business Operations
Since its development, Software as a Service (SaaS) has paved the way for businesses and consumers to discover the benefits of cloud services. Likewise, the progression of the infrastructure and platform as a service (IaaS and PaaS, respectively) has increased the availability of cloud solutions in the public and private sectors.
In 2019, more businesses are expected to take advantage of the simplicity and efficiency the cloud provides. In fact, the forecast also predicts that Saas solutions will account for around 70 percent of all cloud-based workloads in 2019. On the other hand, both PaaS and IaaS solutions are expected to experience a modest growth for the same year.
3. Businesses Will Expect Improved Network Quality
Just as the use of cloud storage is poised to improve tremendously, businesses are bound to expect better and faster Internet connections. On the receiving end, consumers will be expecting more responsive, fast-loading websites and apps.
Qualcomm Snapdragon has already initiated the move for improved network speeds, and there’s a higher chance that 2019 will see more groups following suit. As this trend gains momentum, stronger LTE speeds to as much as full 5G networks are likely to be expected in the upcoming year.
4. Cyber Attacks and Security Will Become More Sophisticated
The year may still haven’t come to an end, but it has already made a record for having the most number of cyber attacks in history. Some attacks such as the recent data breach at the Australian National University have set a bar which can ensure that the future attacks will become more intelligent than before.
However, this will also guarantee that more public and private sectors will have improved methods for detecting and averting attacks. They will likely recognize the need for investing in security tools and malware detection systems for their operations, and that cloud services play an important role here as well.
What trends are you expecting to see in 2019? How do you plan to take advantage of these improvements? Let us know in the comments.
